Under the constitution the federal government has no right in mandating a national drinking age. This is a states right. However, through the coercive NMDA act of 1984, the federal government was able to indirectly control the drinking age of the entire US. Many claim that it prevents traffic deaths, however, they don't take into account the implementation of advanced safety features in modern cars and simply claim an unproven correlation. The age of majority in the USA is 18, having 21 as the age of purchase abridges this age of majority. One could argue this is age discriminatory, while 18 and 21 are both technically adults they are treated differently under the law. As many have said before how can an 18 year old be allowed to die for ones country but be breaking the law buying beer?
