Removing the Social Security Tax cap would make SSI solvent. In doing so, we would remove the debate about applying the CPI index to the Cost of Living adjustment (COLA). Social Security benefits would be a non-partisan issue because we would no longer have to worry about its continued funding. More importantly, it would make the tax a fair tax, instead of a regressive tax. The error in the argument that a cap should exist because wealthy people aren't going to ever use as much as they pay in to the program, is the premise that once someone makes $110,100/year, they continue to make more than that in the future. When only 2% of the population make over this amount at any given moment, it hardly should be justification to apply a recessive tax on the 98% of the population.
