These coin denominations no longer serve their intended function, that being the allowance of financial transactions. Denominations Like that of the 1₵, 5₵ and 10₵ are far too small to allow meaningful transactions, and mostly create a massive industry of waste material and inefficiencies that is unnecessary.
Further, the 1₵ penny costs the federal government over 2₵ to manufacture, while the Nickel is in similarly bad state costing over 11₵ per Coin. Metal Prices fluctuate, but any currency that costs double the price of manufacture is a loss. Dimes cost a little more than 5₵ to manufacture; however, it is unable to purchase any meaningful item by itself, and is therefore questionable.
