Treat US Citizens' Families Fairly
US citizens’ families should not be treated less generously than others in immigration reform.
Much of the debate over immigration reform is framed to be about “them” – what to do about undocumented immigrants, how to resolve their situation fairly and properly. Not enough is about “us” -- particularly, the rights of US citizens who have married undocumented individuals.
It is a fundamental principle of American values that the US government has no right to tell any citizen to choose between their spouse, the love of their life – and their country. Yet that is what current law does.
