Remove the phrase "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.

As an atheist growing up in the public school system, I was always offended by the pledge of allegiance I had to recite every day. I had always been told that the United States was a place of religious freedom, which included the freedom to not believe in God. Why then do we have the phrase "under God" in our pledge? The phrase was added in 1954, during the "religious revival" of the 50's which was largely in response to the red scare. It was during this time that congress added a prayer room to the capitol and replaced the motto printed on all paper money with "in God we trust." As a high school senior I have finally decided to take action. Remove "under God" from the pledge and grant the children of America the right to choose their own religion, or, in my case, lack of religion.
