Race and sex discrimination continues to perpetuate the American culture. By having persons identify their race and sex on forms assures that this discrimination will continue. If we as a country say we do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex and religion why do we have to state our race and sex on standard forms. I don't recall ever having to state my religion on said forms. For example, when you check off your race and sex identifiers on job applications, those reading them form a bias before ever meeting the candidate and may choose not to even interview you solely on these factors instead of your qualifications.
