Remove the religious term of marriage from the government and create a system that includes any partnership.

Marriage began as a religious term and therefore violates the practice of separation of church and state. Considering the issue of same-sex marriage there is little talk of a mutual agreement. Therefore, I propose we remove "marriage" from the tax system and government altogether. Create an all inclusive term that refers to traditional families as well as same-sex partners. This will protect the sanctity of marriage and leave the decision of "same-sex marriage" to the church. The rights of two individuals will be decided through the state.
