This petition calls on the Government to remove, rename, destroy or demolish all statues, memorials, landmarks, and names associated with any slave owners in our nation's history. It is deeply upsetting that our nation continues to honor, in the form of memorials, landmarks, street names, schools and even city names, the memory of slave owners. It is the duty and obligation of every citizen to eliminate all vestiges of racism, including the destruction or removal of all monuments, names and symbols dedicated to people and institutions that perpetuated slavery and white supremacy. These monuments, names and symbols convey disrespect toward minorities, perpetuate the myth of Caucasian superiority, and serve as a barrier toward racial inclusiveness.
