remove representative Lamar Smith from his position as Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology

In his tenure as Chairman, Congressman Smith has continually worked to undermine the research of many of the nation's top scientists. Furthermore, Congressman Smith appears to be unfit as Chairman of a committee on science, as his actions suggest insufficient understanding of the scientific process. More specifically, his repeated attacks against the integrity of the peer review process are an unwarranted waste of time and resources. The recent subpoenas have been criticized as unnecessary and an attempt to hinder research on climate change. A panel of qualified scientists voted in by the science community would better serve the national interests and maintain the quality of merit review for funding decisions.
