In no other career field is it standard for an employee to determine their own salary; rather, it is up to the employer to best determine their employees' salaries, based on both those employees' qualifications and performance. As the elected representatives of the people of the United States of America, both the executive branch and legislative branch of the United States federal government are employees of the people; therefore, each salary should be determined by a vote of that politician's constituents. It has been said, "Put the politicians on minimum wage and watch how fast things change." If that's what it takes to send a message to our elected representatives, it's time for some real change.
