Remove Samira Ibrahim from the List of Women of Courage Award Honorees

Created by R.H. on March 07, 2013

Samira Ibrahim, coordinator of the Egyptian Know Your Rights organization, catapulted to fame following the Tahrir Square sit-ins in Cairo. After being detained and subjected to a virginity test, Ms. Ibrahim was able to convince a civilian court to issue a court order banning the practice of "virginity tests." Absent any serious personality flaws, Ms. Ibrahim would be an ideal award recipient.

However, it has been reported that Ms. Ibrahim has expressed virulent anti-Semitic sentiments on her twitter account over an extended period of time. It is unfortunate that a women of valor should have such a deep character flaw, but the US Government should not issue awards to racists. Please remove Ms. Ibrahim from the list of recipients of this award.
