Currently certified police officers and fire firefighters are not paid overtime rates for the time they work over 40 hours per week. They are paid on a 28 day pay period with police not getting overtime for the first eleven hours and fire for the first 32 hours of overtime. They are also not allowed to strike so they cannot unionize but join collective bargaining units for contracts of employment.
Police and Firefighters risk their lives everyday to protect the citizens of this country but are grossly underpaid for their risk. Add on to that they do not get paid overtime like ordinary workers and it makes it seem unfair. Our troops get combat pay when they risk their lives, but fire and police services do not.
Please ask congress to correct this section and allow fair pay.
