Senator Feinstein’s recent claims that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War" and that the seller of a restricted firearm should need to investigate whether "an individual was a member or veteran and there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon" are not only ludicrous, but make the irrational assumption that all ex-military and ex-police have PTSD and are a threat to public safety. From a military perspective PTSD is a terminologic progression of "shell shock" (WWI) and "battle fatigue"(WWII) and has been reported in more non-military people than can be counted because it covers lingering elevated stress as a result of a traumatic event (like rape, natural disaster, assault, etc..).
