Remove "Service-Related" Designations For Military School Sports Injuries

Created by M.P. on June 28, 2013

I learned today that a man named Braulio Castillo was able to claim 30% service-related disability because he injured his foot playing football for his military prep school. He then used that "crippling disability" to gain special treatment from the government, ahead of veterans with missing limbs, brain injuries, damaged eyesight and countless other combat-related disabilities.

This is wrong.

While we cannot simply ban "gaming the system", we can take a piece off the board. Please look into removing sports injuries in prep schools and academies from the list of service-related injuries, so that ball players in school with twisted ankles are not and will never be equated with veterans who lost limbs and senses in service to our country.

Thank you.
