I am proposing that title 5 section 3331 of the United States Code be updated to reflect the commonly held understanding that forcing a public or military officer to say the words "so help me God" constitutes a religious test and is in violation of the religious test clause in article VI of the united states constitution.
This change is necessary because there are certain military officers who adhere to the letter of the law and force newly appointed officers to swear "so help me God" regardless of their personal beliefs.
