Remove the special exemption that allows employers to not pay overtime to computer professionals.

Created by M.H. on February 11, 2013

I am a software engineer with a computer science degree. I work for a large software company that regularly asks for 10-hour days and weekend shifts, without paying its salaried engineers any extra time.

Due to a federal labor exemption and lack of a history of unionization, it's difficult to fight for decent rights in software. I just want equal rights with other careers. Companies are able to get unpaid overtime instead of hiring more people, which hurts job creation, and I wouldn't want my children becoming software engineers in this legal environment.

Please, remove the exemption. In the long run it will contribute to even fewer students in technical fields. There's little motivation to learn computer science and math when the law discriminates against it.
