The Pledge of Allegiance is something that is very important to this nation and symbolizes what we stand for. However, the Pledge is over 120 years old, and we the people have changed. The original Pledge of Allegiance read, "I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." This served as the Pledge until the 1950's when Louis A. Bowman led the "Sons of the American Revolution" into adding their own phrase, "under God". This act was supported and continued by the "Knights of Columbus", the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, and it spread from there. Thanks to the First Amendment, which gives Americans the right to freedom of religion, we the people would like to revive the original Pledge.
