Many so-called "not-for-profit educational organizations" are recreational in nature and do not provide legitimate educational benefit to the public. Examples of these 501(c)3 groups include the Klingon Language Institute, The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), and the William Augustus Bowles Museum Historical Foundation. Nearly half the fees paid by SCA members go to salary for SCA board members. The Wm Bowles museum doesn't physically exist, and it promotes a Mardi Gras outfit collection, not the actual historical figure, who never stepped foot in Ft. Walton Bch, Florida. Removing the tax exempt status from these recreational groups would ensure that legitimate charitable, religious, and educational organizations benefit instead of long standing institutional insider profiteering.
