Remove Tax Exempt Status of Any Church Involved in Politics

Created by B.C. on November 13, 2012

Tax-exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, requires an organization to be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3). It may not be an action organization (it may not attempt to influence legislation as part of its activities, participate in campaign activities, etc.)

We would like to in part, or in whole, enact the following. Remove any vagueness or loopholes in the 501(c)(3) tax code for Churches and Affiliates allowing them to use "statements about public concern" as a disguise for political actions, politically charged letters to members, and similar. Create/enforce penalties by the IRS on Churches and Affiliates, including the revocation of their tax exempt status.

Churches should be free of all partisan politics.
