The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has enjoyed tax exempt status without question. This must stop. They receive tax exempt status because of our own government's existence of "separation of church and state." However, they have spent millions of tax free dollars to participate in political agenda.
The most popular of these involvements is their involvement with the passing of Proposition 8 in the state of California. The church originally claimed they only spent $2,078, then later admitted to an estimated $25 million an the ban law campaign.
Now they seek to do the same in Hawaii. If they insist on spending money for political agenda, they should pay taxes! They've removed the separation of church & state themselves, so now they should pay taxes like any corporation.
