Remove tax exempt status from churches

Created by J.A. on November 13, 2012

Far to long religions have held a specially protected status of not being required to pay taxes and yet holding all the protections and benefits of the society they supposedly serve. Part of this is that a church is not to actually back a particular candidate but can back causes. In this highly partisan time these are essentially the same thing. If they were taxed there would be no question as they could say what ever they want and support any candidate they like. They could write off any money that they showed went to charitable works and this would mean the burden of proof was on them versus the IRS having to investigate claims of a church supporting a candidate. A church should be free to speak it's truth and truly minister to it's congregation and taxing them is a way to do this.
