remove the tax exempt status from churches and tax them at the same rate as any business of the same profit level.

Created by A.C. on July 05, 2013

It is estimated that if the churches of the major religions in the US were to be taxed at the same rate as a company of the same size and profit level, this would generate over 70 billion dollars in federal tax revenue each year.
The reason they were originally granted tax exemption was to offer tit for tat in that pastors were not permitted to oppose or promote candidates or issues from the pulpit. This bargain has only been upheld from one end and should be repealed.
Some may argue over the loss of the poor from the churches loss in revenue, the average church run charity only consumes approximately 10% of the tax dollars it would otherwise pay, if not less. 25% of tax revenue collected from the nations churches should be used in the eradication of poverty and relief to the poor.
