There is 16% of the American population who do not believe in a god. The Pledge of Allegiance is one of the cornerstones of American patriotism, and because reciting the Pledge is required if you want to run for public office, it is a violation of our Constitutional liberties to discriminate against millions of Americans.
Reverting back to the traditional, pre-1956 version of the Pledge where we state that we're "one Nation indivisible" is much more appropriate and respectful to our founding, our prosperity, and our Constitution. And, it suits flawlessly with our traditional national motto, E Pluribus Unum.
