There's no reason to keep this phrase in the Pledge, "Under God" was not in the pledge until 1954, which was 23 years after the original author of this article passed. He had no intent to put this in. It was a way for President Eisenhower to comfort his people in a time of distress, however if this no longer brings comfort, why should we continue to use it in this way? And really, how difficult is it to remove two words? They added them once, and have made numerous changes to this salute. Why is it such a big deal to change it now?
