When the original Pledge of Allegiance was written, it read "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." However, on June 14th, 1954, Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into effect a bill that made the Pledge of Allegiance include the words "Under God". This is in direct conflict with the First Amendment of the United States constitution, and the freedom of thought, religion, and speech that the United States is so proud of. Having "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is a direct violation of the First Amendment.
