It costs more to produce a penny than it is worth, and it is almost NEVER used in actual purchases or trade in a common scenario.
Not only this, but the zinc used in creating pennies is a heavy metal and is a bad environmental factor for soil due to people discarding pennies for the reasons stated above.
It is also worth noting that many other countries from around the world have eliminated their lowest value coins already for the same reasons.
Losing the penny would not affect anything relating to U.S. history either; Abraham Lincoln will still appear on the $5 bill.
So we urge the Obama Administration to eliminate this unnecessary production that costs the government up to $60 million each year.
