Remove the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance

Created by C.A. on January 24, 2012

We, the undersigned, petition for the removal of the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America.

The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress amending §7 of the Flag Code enacted in 1942. This was done to differentiate the USA from communist state atheism during the Cold War. Since some 40% (Pew Research Center) of Americans do not believe in the Christian God, however, the inclusion of this phrase discriminates against the views of a very sizable portion of American demographics, and disavows them the right to say the Pledge of Allegiance without feeling "left-out" and unrecognized.
