The United States has recognized the inherently divisive power of Confederate symbols. It would be appropriate for the Federal Government to direct all agencies to review the names and use of Confederate artifacts to ensure that they do not promote the ideology it is associated with. For example, should military bases like Fort Bragg and Fort Polk remain named after Confederate Generals or should we rename these bases in honor of less divisive figures in American History.
