On August 31, with the approval of the President and under the authority of a 1947 law, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell signed an order to officially change the name of the highest mountain in the United States from Mount McKinley to Mount Denali, as it was already called by Alaskan Natives and the State of Alaska.
It is clear from media reports that the people and politicians of Ohio are not satisfied with the removal of the honor bestowed to their native son, 25th American President William McKinley.
President McKinley, widely regarded as one of the most successful and meaningful Republican presidents, deserves to be honored.
We request that the highest point in his native Ohio, Campbell Hill in Bellefontaine be renamed "Mount McKinley" in his honor.
