Rename Columbus Day to Bartolomé Day after Bartolomé de las Casas, advocate of indigenous rights & abolition of slavery.

Many atrocities were committed by Christopher Columbus and his men upon encountering the indigenous people of the new world including rape, murder, and slavery. While we the people can not take back what was done, let us not continue to celebrate the horrors committed in the name of conquest. Let us instead celebrate the life of someone who fought for the rights of indigenous people and the eventual abolition of all slavery. Let us not celebrate someone who "discovered" the New World, but instead celebrate Bartolomé de las Casas, a man who came to the New World and discovered his humanity. Let Bartolomé Day become the new new name we celebrate. Happy Bartolomé Day!
