Rename Columbus Day to Exploration Day to include all explorers, vikings, pioneers, astronauts, oceanographers. etc.

Created by P.D. on March 28, 2016

In light of recent discovery's that Columbus was not the first explorer to reach the north american continent, it doesn't seem fitting to only celebrate him. Discovery's that Viking settlements existed predating his landing have been found. We should also celebrate other explorers such as in post colonial times like Lewis and Clark that explored our lands. Along with other historical accounts we could also include those who explored the oceans, like Richard Byrd. To bring the Holiday into more modern time time including the astronauts that have went to the moon. The holiday should celebrate the triumph and curiosity of these people who chose to go the the ends of the earth and beyond. This redefining of the holiday would include Columbus and all of these explorers as well.
