Christopher Columbus has been proven over and over again as firstly, NOT the man who discovered America and secondly, a genocide killer of original inhabitants of this great nation. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the real Columbus, while the Natives welcomed him and his men with gifts, Columbus proceeded to immediately make all of them slaves and take their land. He worked pregnant women, children, and the elderly to their literal death. He provided them with blankets covered in smallpox to ensure their demise. There is absolutely NO reason to honor this man. Native Americans should be honored, instead, out of respect for their heritage, sacrifices, and the devastation their ancestors have endured so that we, Americans, could build this great nation.
