The detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay are a source of embarrassment and shame for the United States. Why does a prison system which conforms neither to the standards of the US criminal justice system nor the Geneva Convention damage the reputation the US so much? The reason is obvious - bad marketing. If the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility were to be renamed "Freedom Prison", it would emphasise to the rest of the world everything that is good about the United States - suspects against whom there is insufficient (or no) evidence of any crime, are detained for the rest of their lives in a law-free zone, in the name of freedom! Surely other countries and the detainees themselves could only sing hymns of glorious praise about the United States if this change were implemented.
