The pound and the ounce, primarily American units, do not reflect the greatness of our country and should be renamed to embody more American values.
The pound is the currency used by Britain, our former governors. We gained independence from them over 200 years ago; it is time we gain independence from their units.
The pound should be changed to the “Freedom” (fr.) and the ounce to the “Liberty” (lib.). These values make up the foundation of our government. In the Preamble of the Constitution, it is written, “We the People of the United States, in Order to… secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution….”
We ask the Obama administration to consider our petition and change the pound to the Freedom, and the ounce to the Liberty.
