Over the course of 2013, North Carolina has transformed from a nondescript, run-of-the-mill southern state to a stand-out Tea Party stronghold. Its government has implemented, or tried to implement, policies that raise the bar for absurdly imbecilic and/or downright depraved right-wing accomplishments. These include: slashing income tax while increasing sales tax, thus reducing lower-income access to food and medicine; making Christianity the official state religion; requiring notarized parental consent for STD testing; repealing the Racial Justice Act; and becoming the first state to eliminate unemployment benefits.
In light of these nonpareil developments, it would be appropriate that the state have a name that best reflects its newly-perfected ethos and identity: Dumbfuckistan.
