In order to better encompass the unity and fraternity between the states and territories, we suggest changing the name of the nation to the Democratic Republic of Lakota, a Native American word meaning "friendly, united". This name also serves to proudly proclaim our system of government in a way that "United States of America" does not. Similarly, it gives distinction between "America" the synonym for the United States of America, and "America" the continent. It gives citizens of the nation a clear demonym, Lakotan, solving the ambiguity of "American". This name also duly gives honor to the Native American peoples, our ancestors and predecessors in this land.
