Woodrow Wilson was the most virulent racist to ever be president. He undid Reconstruction and rigidly re-segregated the civil service. When running for president he promised American black men an "absolute fair dealing" for advancing their interests. But after the election, Wilson completely reneged on this promise.He dismissed 15 out of 17 black supervisors who had been previously appointed to federal jobs, replacing them with whites. His administration oversaw the purging of blacks from many areas of the government. He also saw to it that the military was segregated, and the blacks were allowed few, if any, combat positions. He is undeserving of praise.
