The present state of our economy is extremely fragile and the future of our nation depends on our elected officials making some of the same tough decisions the American people have had to make the last several years.
We propose a move for reorganization of salary and benefits packages for all members of Congress effective immediately. Considerations would include:
> Forgoing of congressional salary for life. Once retired or voted out of office, salary discontinues.
> Salary levels made comparable to other elected officials (e.x., county counsel) with option for performance bonuses.
> Benefit packages comparable to other government jobs (e.x., teachers)
> Documented and taxed income from corporate sponsor/lobbying programs
> Future pay raises by people vote only
