Amtrak is most energy efficient, generates the most revenue, and is one of the safest method of travel. The infrastructure already connects more than 500 destinations. Amtrak moved over 31 million people in 2012 and another 61.1 million passengers through other various commuter service
Unfortunately, Amtrak currently has some shortcomings. There is currently only one high speed rail line in the US. Many locations lack Amtrak service including Phoenix Arizona, Las Vegas, and North and South Dakota. A large part of the sunset limited has been unavailable since hurricane Katrina damaged it in 2005.
