Reparations Study for African Americans

Created by T.S. on November 28, 2014

For the past 25 years, Congressman John Conyers Jr. has marked every session of Congress by introducing a bill calling for a congressional study of slavery and its lingering effects as well as recommendations for “appropriate remedies.” (Ta-Nehisi Coates, "The Case for Reparations", The Atlantic, June 2014)

In signing this petition, I am urging the President to bring awareness to this issue by creating a federal task force to study the direct connection between the transcontinental slave trade and current conditions in African American communities.

This task force should be non-partisan and work to identify key solutions and make recommendations to congress for a vote.
