Congress has made a knee-jerk reaction to the crash of Colgan Air 3407. Their nearsightedness, ignorance to the aviation industry, and the FAA's corruption have made them pass a law saying pilots must have 1500 flight hours to become commercial pilots.
With a huge shortage of pilots coming in the next few years, there will be a huge vacuum in the industry. As of right now, pilots who have less than 1500 hours, and are less than 23 years of age, (who are already flying for US air carriers), will lose their jobs.
The government has missed the opportunity to create jobs in a lucrative and proud industry, but are instead stripping the wings and stripes off of young men and women who have spent thousands of dollars and numerous hours to their dreams.
