Repeal the 17th Amendment

Created by S.H. on March 09, 2014

We have a problem with Senators who become career politicians, coming into office as servants of the people, and leaving as wealthy cronies that are deaf to the people they serve.

The American system was deliberately designed to balance power between the various branches of government and to guarantee individual rights against the majority rule, thus protecting the people from tyranny, whether they liked it or not.

US Senators were once appointed by state legislatures, rather than voted into office. This was established in the Constitution, because the founding fathers knew that people could be "purchased" by outside entities, thus not reflecting the interests of the state.

We need to come back to the basic premise of the Constitution. Give power back to the states, as was intended.
