Prior to the enactment of the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution the U.S. Senators discussed federal affairs with their state legislators on a regular basis. At THAT time U.S. Senators did not have to raise millions of dollars to run for office. Today, Senators pander to whoever contributes large amounts of money to their reelection campaigns, mainly corporations and special interest groups. This is commonly refered to as croney capitalism. Senators are representing these corporations and special interest groups instead of representing the people's interest in their own state. By repealing the 17th amendment, the will of the people will be represented by state in Washington.
