This petition is a call to the Obama administration to urge the repeal of the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which states in part: "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote."
This would return our union to the former electoral process which is outlined in Article I, section 3, "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, chosen by the legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote."
Popular election of U.S. Senators has become far too contentious and prone to self-servitude. A return to previous methods will help guarantee the States will have a true voice at the Federal level.
