The current federal law states that only vehicles 25 years or older can be imported in to America by private individuals easily, and if one wants to privately import a newer car, it can only be driven a certain number of miles a year and be used for "show and display" only. The saddest part of this is, vehicles improperly imported, no matter how valuable, are crushed by the government.
Think about it. The government will let you bring in a 30-year-old diesel that emits dangerous pollution, but not a 35-mpg European economy car? It's ridiculous.
Please help auto enthusiasts across the nation and let us import safe vehicles. It's not 1960 anymore, when "foreign car" meant an unsafe rust bucket. Cars today, even from places like China or India, are well-suited for our roads.
