"A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." In 1791, when Amendment 2 was ratified, we disbanded the Revolutionary Army of Washington. We had no standing Army and the country in front of us was wild. In our time, we have police, state National Guard ("militias") and the greatest military in world history. Today, people with serious mental health deficits are acquiring arms through legal means. Do hunters need semi-automatics? Why does any citizen need assault weapons, or a Glock, which explodes inside the flesh, making a grievous wound inevitable. There are uses for citizen handguns and rifles, but we must regulate them well. Until the 2nd Amendment is repealed, there can't be meaningful gun control.
