In 1861 the Confederate States of America attempted to secede from the United States and declared war on this nation to accomplish it. The Constitution explicitly defines treason against the United States as including "levying war against them."
We nation honor our veterans. They're men and women who put their lives on the line to defend this nation. However, over the years several Acts of Congress have equated Confederate veterans, who took up arms AGAINST the United States, with those brave men and women who took up arms FOR the United States. (See, for example, U.S. Public Law 85-425: Sec. 410)
We urge the President and the Congress to immediately repeal any law which grants to Confederate veterans any of the honor and rights to which American Veterans are entitled.
