We, the people, demand the repeal of all hate crime laws. There are three main reasons why we feel this is necessary. First, hate crime laws are almost always targeted and applied at caucasians, and are rarely used to prosecute minorities, even when there is ample evidence that the crime fits the description of a hate crime. Secondly, an assault, rape, or murder does not become worse because the victim is targeted for being black, white, gay, or Muslim. Murder is murder. Rape is rape. Assault is assault. Is a person who murders someone for being gay a worse criminal than one who murders someone for the money in his pocket? I think not. Is a white life worth less than the life of a black citizen? Lastly, it is too easy to expand the definition of a hate crime, to stifle speech.
