When the founding fathers created this nation, their intentions for taxes were focused on indirect taxes. This means, in short, taxes that citizens can avoid, I.e. purchasing things not needed but wanted. Amendment 16 was voted into place after the civil war when congress realized they liked all the money coming in while taxing income during the civil war to pay for it. Repeal Amendment 16 to stop the government from being able to tax the citizens income.
