Many state legislatures have rearranged their voting districts for the sole purpose of silencing opposition. This immoral practice, known as gerrymandering, often divides areas that historically vote against these politicians into many separate districts, each shaped so they contain a majority that votes in the practitioner’s favor. Since the opposition is divided so thinly into many districts, they end up as hundreds of minorities, or as one majority district with hundreds of opposing districts. This eliminates the influence of these voters, destroying democracy and the American system entirely.
As an example, look at Texas: the Republican legislature has redistricted Democratic areas like Austin and San Antonio so their districts contain large Republican areas that drown out their votes
